The federal lawmaker said his departure from the PDP was due to ongoing disputes within the party.

He said the crisis rocking the PDP has remained unaddressed at both the national and local levels.

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, announced Magaji’s defection in a letter read on the floor of the lower legislative chamber on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

According to Magaji, the internal crisis in the PDP has made it “impossible” to remain in the opposition party.

However, Kingsley Chinda, the minority leader, faulted Magaji's claim stating that there was no crisis in the PDP, TheCable reports.

Chinda demanded that Magaji’s seat be declared vacant in line with section 68 of the 1999 constitution which outlines the conditions under which a member can lose their seat.
