Ek was born on February 21, 1983, in Stockholm, Sweden. He attended IT-Gymnasiet in Sundbyberg during his teenage years. In 2016, Daniel Ek married his longtime lover Sofia Levander in a lavish ceremony at Lake Como, Italy.
